BATHURST – The Acadie-Bathurst Titan have signed top 2020 draft selections Lane Hinkley and Dylan Andrews to Standard Player Agreements, General Manager Sylvain Couturier announced today.
Hinkley, a six-foot-one, 198-pound defenceman from Moncton, New Brunswick, was selected in the first round, 16th overall. “Getting Hinkley at 16 was a surprise for us,” said Couturier. “He’s a solid defenceman with shutdown capability, which is tough to find in this day and age. He’s played against players older than him since the age of 12 and in his last year of bantam, he was the lone defenceman from his team to jump up to the midget level.”
The 16-year-old has spent the previous two seasons in the GTHL with the Vaughan Kings and the Toronto Marlboros. Hinkley spent the 2018-19 season with the Kings compiling 17 points in 33 games as one of just four 2004-born players in the U16 league. This past season Lane played 27 games with the Marlboros totalling eight points.
Andrews, a five-foot-11, 163-pound center from Lawrencetown, Nova Scotia, was the Titan’s second round pick, 36th overall. “For us getting Dylan in the second round is equivalent to having a second pick in the first round,” added Couturier. “He’s a really good goal scorer with a solid 200 foot game and a high compete level. We had him very high on our list, as did the CSR, and we’re really excited him and Lane have agreed to come to Bathurst.”
With the Cole Harbour Wolfpack of the NSMMHL this season Andrews scored 19 goals and added 17 assists for 36 points in 35 games.
