Titan trade Element to Eagles for Doucet, Riel, and picks

BATHURST – The Acadie-Bathurst Titan announced today that they have traded captain Shawn Element to the Cape Breton Eagles in exchange for forward David Doucet, defenceman Zackary Riel, 2020 first round pick (Rimouski), 2021 second round pick, and 2021 third round pick. Cape Breton also receives 2021 sixth and ninth round picks.
Element, 19, is in the midst of the best season of his career. With 20 goals and 34 points in 32 games, Element has already surpassed his career highs in both categories. The Victoriaville, Quebec native was acquired, along with 2019 second and third round picks, from the Baie-Comeau Drakkar at the 2019 draft in exchange for the Drakkar’s own 2021 first and second round picks.
Doucet, a product of Baie Sainte-Anne, New Brunswick, was the 25th overall selection in the 2019 draft by the Eagles. After cracking their roster out of camp, the 16-year-old had one goal in 33 games in limited playing time. With the acquisition of Doucet, the Titan now have five of the top 30 players from the 2019 draft. Riel is a six-foot-one, 210-pound defenceman from Montreal, Quebec. The 18-year-old was a ninth round pick of the Victoriaville Tigres in 2018 and has been with the Tigres for the past season and a half. In 31 games this season, Riel has six points.
The Titan would like to thank Shawn Element for his effort and commitment to the organization, and wish him all the best in the next chapter of his hockey career.
