BATHURST – The Cape Breton Eagles made their first trip to Bathurst this season to take on the Acadie-Bathurst Titan on back-to-back nights this weekend.
After the Eagles stormed out to an early 3-0 lead Friday night, the Titan came from behind to take it 6-4. Logan Chisholm and Mathieu Desgagnes each scored twice while Ben Allison and Cole Huckins added singles. 20-year-old forward Felix-Antoine Marcotty finished the game with three assists and rookie goaltender Chad Arsenault made 31 saves for his fifth win in as many games.
Saturday afternoon the two teams were back on the ice to cap off the back-to-back. Acadie-Bathurst took control early with Cole Larkin, Mathieu Desgagnes, and Riley Kidney scoring in the first period to put them in front 3-0. The Titan would add four more goals in the second period as Cole Huckins, Yannic Bastarache, Felix-Antoine Marcotty, and Bennett MacArthur all found the back of the net. Former Titan and current Eagles captain Shawn Element scored his third of the season at 18:22 to make it 7-1 after 40 minutes of play.
Adam McCormick, playing against his former team, potted his first of the season to make it 8-1 late in the third period and that would stick as the final score. Goaltender Christian Sbaraglia, who was signed from the OHL’s Niagara Ice Dogs two weeks ago, made his first start in this one after serving his 14-day quarantine period. The 19-year-old made 26 saves to secure his first QMJHL win.
