HALIFAX, N.S. – The Acadie-Bathurst Titan kept their season alive with a win over the Halifax Mooseheads Monday night in game three of the 2022 President Cup Playoffs. The Titan downed the Mooseheads 8-1 at Scotiabank Centre to force a fourth game in the best-of-five first round series.
Halifax, who finished the regular season eighth overall, entered Monday’s match-up with a 2-0 series lead over the Titan. Goal scorers in Acadie-Bathurst’s victory were Zach Biggar and Jacob Melanson with two goals each, while Hendrix Lapierre, Miguel Tourigny, Felix Lafrance, and Riley Kidney each found the back of the net once.
Kidney finished the night with four points while MacArthur, Melanson and Lapierre had three points each. Lafrance and Biggar also registered two points apiece.
The Titan got goals in the first from Biggar, Lafrance, Melanson and Tourigny to take a 4-0 lead into the intermission. In the second Biggar, Lapierre and Kidney added to the lead making it 7-1 after 40 minutes of play. Melanson’s second of the night was the lone Titan goal in the third period. Halifax’s Elliot Desnoyers scored on a penalty shot in the second frame for their first and only tally Monday night.
Jan Bednar backstopped the visitors to victory, denying 27 of the home team’s 28 shots on goal. The Titan, who had 29 shots on goal, scored on both their powerplays and while Halifax did not score on either of their two powerplay opportunities.
The Titan stave off elimination and will now look towards game four on Wednesday night in Halifax.
