BATHURST – The Acadie-Bathurst Titan are proud to announce the hiring of Greg Leland as an assistant coach for the 2020-2021 season.
“This is a great addition for our organization,” said General Manager Sylvain Couturier. “Greg brings experience, leadership, and credibility to our team. He knows what it takes to win having won a Memorial Cup and been part of Hockey Canada programs at various levels.”
Originally from Quispamsis, Leland has many years of experience as a coach. He was head coach at the Midget AAA level for over 15 years before ending up behind the Saint John Sea Dogs bench for eight seasons, winning the President’s Cup and Memorial Cup in 2011. He was most recently head coach and general manager of the Campbellton Tigers in the Maritime Hockey League for the past four years. At the international level, Leland has been behind the bench at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge four times including 2010 when he was the head coach of Team Canada Atlantic. He also served as an assistant coach with Team Canada East at the 2019 World Junior A Hockey Challenge.
Leland says he is very happy to be back in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. “When Sylvain Couturier approached me, I didn’t hesitate much,” says Leland. “I have enormous respect for Mario and Sylvain. The Titan organization is well run and I know I will enjoy my experience in Bathurst. It will be a constant challenge and I am ready for it.”
While the opportunity to return to the QMJHL is exciting, the veteran coach says it was still a difficult decision. “It was not an easy decision to leave the Tigers. I enjoyed my years there, but I’m now ready to return to the QMJHL to work with some talented young players.”
