BATHURST – The Acadie-Bathurst Titan are pleased to announce the hiring of Roger Shannon as Assistant to the General Manager. The Titan bring Shannon in following the completion of his contract with the Moncton Wildcats on June 30, 2019.
The Fredericton, New Brunswick product will work closely with general manager Sylvain Couturier and head scout Andre Lévesque as well as head coach Mario Durocher to help bring the team back to the position they found themselves in just a little more than a year ago in Regina, Saskatchewan. Shannon is no stranger to the QMJHL having started with the Titan in the early 2000’s before moving on to guide the Lewiston Maineiacs as the Head Scout and General Manager, and then to Shawinigan as the Assistant to Martin Mondou in their Memorial Cup Championship run in 2012. Roger was most recently Director of Hockey Operations for the Moncton Wildcats from 2012 to 2018.
“I am back where I started, and alongside a true friend, and that makes it all worth it. Although a lot of the faces have changed there are still many familiar ones,” said Shannon. “Sylvain and I have covered a lot of ground over the years, made a lot of significant hockey moves and I was never prouder of anyone more than when the Titan won the Cup. The city, the team and all the staff were so deserving because they did things the right way, and I am looking forward to helping in any way I can to assist Sylvain, Andre and Mario in bringing the cup back to Bathurst. I am really looking forward to the challenge.”
Shannon recently became President and Governor of the new Fredericton Junior Red Wings of the Maritime Junior League. Shannon has served for 19 seasons with the University of New Brunswick Reds Men’s hockey team as the General Manager, during that time winning seven National championships, three silver medals and one bronze as well as a gold medal at the 2013 World University Games in Trentino, Italy. Shannon recently stepped down from his position with the Reds to pursue this opportunity.
“This is a great day for the organization and myself to have Roger Shannon as part of our team as well as being surrounded by hockey minds such as André Lévesque and Mario Durocher,” said Couturier. “Adding Roger Shannon to our team will definitely be a plus. I always believe that you are as good as the people around you, and to have these guys on board for the next year or so is truly a privilege.”
