Following the departure of their head coach and general manager Gilles Bouchard, who recently joined the Syracuse Crunch of the AHL, the Acadie-Bathurst Titan granted the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies permission to speak with Mario Pouliot about the vacant position.
The Titan are extremely proud to have 12 members of our 2017-18 roster participating in professional camps and now our head coach graduating to a head coach and general manager role.
For Pouliot, it all started with his hometown Saint-Hyacinthe Laser in 1989 when he worked in a scouting role with the team. He was then promoted to assistant coach the following season and held the position until the end of the 1993-94 season. Three years later Pouliot joined the College Antoine-Girouard Gaulois where he worked as an assistant coach from 1997 to 2001 before taking over as head coach. He coached the Gaulois from 2001 to 2009 before getting an assistant coaching job with the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies.
After a season and a half with the Huskies, Mario was hired by the Baie-Comeau Drakkar as head coach midway through the 2010-11 season and remained with the Drakkar until 2012-13. The next stop on his coaching journey was a return to the Huskies as an assistant coach until the end of the 2013-14 season. The Titan hired Pouliot as head coach ahead of the 2014-15 season and he has held the position since that time.
Despite missing the playoffs in his first season in Bathurst, Pouliot went on to lead the Titan to three consecutive playoff appearances including capturing the President Cup and Memorial Cup championships this past season. In four seasons, the 54-year-old put together a regular season record of 126-116-30.
The Acadie-Bathurst Titan would like to thank Mario for the hard work he put in during his time with the Titan and wish him the best of luck with the Huskies.
