MacDonald, Element net two goals apiece in win over Drakkar

BAIE-COMEAU – The Acadie-Bathurst Titan kicked off a three-game road trip through Quebec on Wednesday night as they visited the Centre Henry-Leonard to take on the Baie-Comeau Drakkar.

After an early interference penalty to Brandon St-Louis, the visitors opened the scoring. Cole Huckins circled all the way around the net and found Anderson MacDonald in front for the games first goal. Evan MacKinnon also got an assist on the powerplay marker. That would be the only goal scored in the opening 20 minutes as the Titan took the 1-0 into the intermission.

Period two was a bit of a different story as both sides scored three times. Early in the frame Julien Letourneau scored two goals less than two minutes apart to give the Drakkar their first lead of the night, 2-1. MacDonald would then add his second of the game at 9:02 to even the game 2-2 before the midway point. Huckins notched another assist on the goal while Mathieu Desgagnes picked up the other. Antoine Rochon responded for the home team 42 seconds later to put them back in front 3-2. Former Drakkar Shawn Element brought the game back to even once more with his 14th of the season assisted by Desgagnes at 12:13 as he beat Dakota Lund-Cornish five-hole from the slot. Benjamin Roode rounded out the second period scoring putting a wrist shot from the point over Lund-Cornish’s shoulder for the first goal of his QMJHL career at 18:34. Remy Anglehart picked up the lone helper on the play as he won the faceoff straight to the 17-year-old defenceman.

It was a defensive final period of play with both teams getting their chances but neither side was able to find the back of the net. That was until the final minute when Element hit the empty net to put a bow on the Titan’s first road victory over the season, 5-3 over the Drakkar. Element was named first star of the game while another former Drakkar Yan Aucoin picked up 3rd star honours.
