MacArthur nets hat trick in win over Cape Breton

BATHURST – The Acadie-Bathurst Titan got back into the win column in a big way with a blowout 9-1 victory over the Cape Breton Eagles Friday night at the K.C. Irving Regional Centre. The win comes on the heels of a 4-3 overtime loss to Cape Breton on Thursday night.

“It was a great team effort. I think, you know, all three periods really came out hard,” said Bennett MacArthur, after the game Friday. “We put it to them tonight after a loss. It’s a great bounce-back win for us.”

MacArthur, who was named first star of the game, lead the way for the Titan with the hat-trick and an assist. Six other Titan players scored with goals from Noah Ryan, Hendrix Lapierre, Cameron MacLean, Riley Kidney, Logan Chisholm and Zach Biggar.

Lapierre, Biggar, and Joseph Henneberry finished the night with three points apiece while MacLean, Kidney and Lane Hinkley each had a pair of points. Cole Huckins, Harijs Brants and Cole Larkin each picked an assist as well.

MacArthur scored his first two goals in the first period, with Ryan, Lapierre, MacLean and Kidney netting their goals in the second. Chisholm, MacArthur and Biggar scored the final three goals of the night in the final frame to take the game 9-1 over Cape Breton. Kian Bell netted the lone goal for the Eagles. Acadie-Bathurst outshot the visiting Eagles 47-18.

“I think it was a good game for me,” said MacArthur, when asked about how he felt about this performance. “My linemates were really finding me and, you know, I was moving my feet and getting to the open areas so I thought I had a pretty good game.”

The two teams will now travel to Sydney where they’ll meet up once again on Sunday afternoon at Centre 200.

“It’s a big game Sunday,” said MacArthur about carrying Friday’s momentum into Sunday. “It’s a little three-game set here so, you know, we want to get the third one.”
