Late comeback falls short as Titan lose to Armada

BATHURST – The Acadie-Bathurst Titan were in action for their second game in as many nights to take on the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada. After falling to the Charlottetown Islanders Thursday night despite a valiant effort, the Titan got out to a hot start in this one but could not keep it up for the full 60 minutes.

Cole Rafuse’s 12th of the season opened the scoring 7:17 into the game with assists going to Jack Tucker and Jesse Sutton. Two minutes later Evan MacKinnon found the back of the net to make it 2-0 for the home side. Tucker and Liam Leonard picked up the helpers. The Armada struck later in the frame with two quick goals from Antoine Demers and Jasper Rannisto to tie it up after one period.

The visitors would score twice in the first three minutes of the period to take a 4-2 lead. Samuel Bolduc and Simon Pinard were the goal scorers. Demers added his second of the night later in the period to push it to 5-2 through 40 minutes of action.

A pair of powerplay goals in the final 10 minutes gave the Titan a bit of life. Jesse Sutton roofed a wrist shot past Brendan Cregan at 11:16 assisted by MacKinnon and Marc-Andre LeCouffe making it 5-3. With under two minutes to play Ian Smallwood scored from the point to bring the home team to within one at 18:19. Sutton and Anderson MacDonald notched helpers. Despite their best efforts late in the game the Titan fell to the Armada 6-4 thanks to an empty net goal by Samuel Bolduc.
