BATHURST – After the Acadie-Bathurst Titan shocked the Rimouski Oceanic 4-3 Friday night at the Colisée Financière Sun Life, you could expect that Serge Beausoleil’s group would come out strong when the two teams met again Saturday night at the K.C. Irving Regional Centre.
That is exactly what happened as the Oceanic scored three times in the first 11 minutes of the game to grab control of the game. Nicolas Guay scored all three of those goals to get the hat trick. His 19th of the year opened the scoring at 3:02 with assists to Alexis Lafreniere and Isaac Belliveau followed by his 20th of the campaign at 3:45. That goal was unassisted. At 10:06 of the opening frame the 20-year-old completed the hat trick with his 21st making is 3-0 for the visitors and chasing Titan goaltender Felix-Anthony Ethier from the game. Lafreniere and Nathan Ouellet picked up the helpers. Ouellet found the back of the net himself later in the period extending the lead to 4-0. Lafreniere grabbed another assist on the play along with Christopher Inniss as the Oceanic lead 4-0 after one.
No goals were scored the second period however the Oceanic outshot the Titan 11-4. Frederic Janvier pushed it to 5-0 in the third period finishing off a beautiful feed from Lafreniere at 10:59. Belliveau also got an assist on the play, his second of the night. Despite a couple of powerplays, the Titan weren’t able to solve Creed Jones and the Oceanic came out with a 5-0 win to split the season series. Lafreniere was the games first star while Guay’s hat trick earned him second star.
