Billet Feature: Kim White

Opening their homes and personal lives to Titan players, billet families play an essential role in our organization. A second family to the players, a support system for them and their families – billets are crucial to major junior hockey teams’ success. So, each week we’d like to introduce you to our amazing billets.

Fans, meet Kim White!

Entering her eighth season as a billet, Kim is one of our “veteran” billets! It all started with a quick phone call from Sly (Sylvain Couturier) asking if she would billet a player for training camp, and the rest is history! Her house was home to former Titan players Mark Trickett, Luc Deschenes, Rodrigo Abols, Jordan Maher, Alex Pisarik, Juraj Mily, and presently Logan Chisholm and Sam McKinney. Kim enjoys having multiple players at once to ensure the house is never quiet, except when the team is on the road.

What is your favourite memory with a billet?

Logan Chisholm has spent most of his junior career living with Kim, so the stories are endless. But we were able to narrow it down to a common theme – Rookie moves. Logan provides laundry challenges. He spilled ketchup all down the front of a white shirt during the welcome BBQ his rookie year. One time, he sat in chewing gum and got all over his dress pants; that was a pain to remove.

Sam, on the other hand, provides head shakes. At the beginning of the season, he thought he locked his keys in his car, calls a tow truck, opens the vehicle only to discover the keys are sitting on his dresser and needs to get a drive back home!

How long have you been a billet and why did you decide to billet a Titan player?

Kim’s first year billeting was 2013 for a player from the Czech Republic. Empty nest allowed Alex Pisarik to join our family and as the years past the numbers grew, as did the beautiful memories.

Do you have any traditions, fun facts, celebrations, etc., with your billet?

If you open the clean dishwasher, you must unload it, nachos while watching bachelor/ bachelorette, wearing your paper crown for Christmas dinner.

Is there a favourite meal in your household?

Steak, peanut butter pasta and Shepherds pie.

Is there anything you have to keep stocked in the pantry that you usually wouldn’t?

Pantry staples include orange juice, cinnamon rolls and wine for myself.

Do you keep in touch with any former billets?

I have had eight billets, and I still hear from 7 of them on special occasions.

What would you say to someone thinking of becoming a billet?

Welcome them in as they were your own, and you will never regret the experience. Be open to accepting the quirky habits of hockey players and keep the cupboards stocked!
