2020 Draft Revisited: Late Round Picks

With the 2021 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Entry Draft set for the end of the month we’ve decided to take a look back at how our 2020 draft class performed during the 2020-21 season. A total of 13 players were selected by the Titan, including five in the eighth round or later. Here’s a look back at those late round picks:

Cael MacDonald • Round 8, 146th Overall

While several players from the 2020 draft class did not see game action this season due to the ongoing pandemic, MacDonald was fortunate enough to have a season in the NSU18MHL with the Halifax McDonald’s. In his second season with the Macs, MacDonald took on a big role and with that came more production as he posted 36 points in 29 games. The Hatchet Lake, Nova Scotia product went on to add six points in three playoff games.

Aidan MacLeod • Round 9, 149th Overall

MacLeod was also lucky enough to be able to play this season as he also spent the campaign in the NSU18MHL with the Valley Wildcats. In 29 games, the five-foot-nine, 152-pound center had 10 goals and 10 assists for 20 points. He went without a point in four playoff games.

Kency Pierre-Noel • Round 11, 185th Overall

A native of La Gardeur, Quebec, Pierre-Noel was set to return to the College Esther-Blondin Phenix this season in the Quebec Midget AAA Hockey League. However, due to high case numbers in the province the LHMAAAQ was unable to hold a 2020-21 season.

Matthew McRae • Round 12, 203rd Overall

McRae returned to the Saint John Vito’s of the NBPEIU18MHL for a second season and saw an increased role as he was named an assistant captain. In 17 games, the six-foot-one winger scored 10 goals and added 11 assists for 21 points to finish third in league scoring. The Quispamsis product had six points in five playoff games before being recalled by the Titan for the duration of the QMJHL playoffs.

Ryan Branch • Round 13, 221st Overall

Branch, a six-foot-seven goaltender, was scheduled to return to Bishop’s College School where he spent the 2019-20 season however due to the pandemic did not see any game action.
