Viel and Crossman lead Titan past Cataractes

BATHURST – The Acadie-Bathurst Titan welcomed the QMJHL’s worst team to the K.-C.-Irving Regional Centre on Friday night as former Titan defenceman Olivier Desroches and the Shawinigan Cataractes were in town.

It was the Cataractes who would get on the board first when Jeremy Manseau scored at 4:58. Jeffrey Viel tied the game up at one with his 26th of the season at 11:06 with assists to Olivier Galipeau and Jordan Maher. Ethan Crossman found the back of the net 41 seconds later to put the Titan ahead 2-1. Domenic Malatesta and Logan Chisholm notched helpers on the goal.

A powerplay marker from Liam Murphy 2:42 into the second period gave the home side a 3-1 advantage before Viel scored a late goal to push the score to 4-1 after two periods. Michal Ivan, Noah Dobson, Antoine Morand as well as Crossman all got assists in the frame.

Early in the third Crossman picked up his second tally of the game on a man advantage pushing the Titan lead to 5-1. Murphy and Adam Holwell had the assists. Leon Denny scored late for Shawinigan but that was all they could muster up as the Titan skated away with a 5-2 win.
