Boucherville, Que. – The Ultramar Player of the Week is Evan Fitzpatrick (Titan | Acadie-Bathurst) whose stellar performances helped his team reach the playoffs semifinals. He posted a 0.962% save percentage as well as an amazing 0.96 goals against average over the past week.
Fitzpatrick has been nothing short of spectacular in the 2018 playoff run, securing all eight of his team’s wins throughout the series. On Tuesday, he shutout his former team, the Sherbrooke Phoenix, to take game three; his first game with no goals allowed in his post-season career.
The next day, the Titan was looking to sweep the series and Fitzpatrick made sure to show up for the occasion. He allowed only two goals in over 60 minutes of play, giving him a 1.84 goals against average as well as a 0.933 save percentage in the outing. The Titan ultimately took the game 3-2.
As of now, Fitzpatrick is leading the current playoff run with his 1.79 goals against average, and he is tied for most wins with eight. The Titan has been having a great post-season campaign so far, and while its players have been producing some great offensive results, their success has also been hugely dependant on their 20-year-old netminder. He’s played all of the team’s games thus far, without losing a game since the 28th of March and having only played two games in which he let in more than two goals.
Other players considered for the Ultramar Player of the Week are forward Drake Batherson (Armada | Blainville-Boisbriand) and goaltender Étienne Montpetit (Tigres | Victoriaville).
Batherson had eight points in as little as three games last week. He’s been one of the Armada’s key offensive components throughout the series with numerous outstanding performances, including a four-point game on Tuesday against the Moncton Wildcats. He is the current playoffs leader for points with 18, as well as the leader for assists with 12.
Montpetit won all three of his games last week, effectively securing the Tigres’ place in the next round of the playoffs. He currently rivals Fitzpatrick in statistics, as he is second with his 1.91 goals against average and is tied for first in wins with 8. He is currently on a streak of 115 minutes and 19 seconds without allowing a goal, a sequence that he will carry over into the semifinals against the Acadie-Bathurst Titan.
