Titan take over first place with win over Mooseheads

BATHURST – The Acadie-Bathurst Titan faced off against the Halifax Mooseheads on national television Saturday evening. With the two teams even atop the Maritimes division with 89 points, this was a pivotal matchup and it did not disappoint.

After a tight-checking, defensive opening few minutes the Titan gave their fans something to cheer about with back-to-back goals. The captain Jeffrey Viel opened the scoring with his 36th of the season at 8:34 with the lone assist going to Mitchell Balmas. A little over a minute later Justin Ducharme burried one to give the home side a 2-0 lead. Adam Holwell notched the only assist at 9:40. Filip Zadina got the Mooseheads on the board at 15:40 to make it 2-1 after one period of play.

In the second period the only tally came from Zadina again as he scored to even it up at two goals apiece with seven seconds to go in the frame. It was 2-2 through 40 minutes. German Rubtsov found the back of the net 2:27 into the third period to give the Titan a 3-2 lead. Viel and Noah Dobson picked up assists on the eventual game-winner.

Evan Fitzpatrick made 27 saves to help the Titan muscle their way into the top spot in the Maritimes division with two games to play, including one against these same Mooseheads.
