REGINA, Sask. – The Acadie-Bathurst made history in more ways than one on Sunday night when they defeated the Regina Pats 3-0 to win the 2018 Mastercard Memorial Cup. Not only was it the franchise’s first ever Memorial Cup win, but it was also the 100th anniversary of the tournament.

Adam Holwell opened the scoring late in the opening period with a low shot from the right circle that slipped under the pad of Pats goaltender Max Paddock to give the Titan a 1-0 lead. Mitchell Balmas and Antoine Morand picked up the assists on the eventual game-winner. After a scoreless second period the Titan continued to lead 1-0 through 40 minutes of play and found themselves 20 minutes away from history.

With just under seven minutes remaining Samuel Asselin continued his strong tournament with his fifth goal of the event to give the QMJHL champions a bit of insurance. Jeffrey Viel notched the lone helper at 13:02. Ethan Crossman sealed the deal with 30 seconds to play as he scored in the empty-net to give the Titan a 3-0 victory. Evan Fitzpatrick turned away 28 shots for the shutout to help his team earn the Mastercard Memorial Cup.

Following the tournament the 2018 Memorial Cup All-Star team was announced and it was full of Titan flavour. Three of the six players were members of the Titan as Samuel Asselin, Jeffrey Viel and Noah Dobson were named tournament all-stars.

1st Star – Samuel Asselin
