The Acadie-Bathurst Titan opened up the 2017 QMJHL Playoffs with a four-to-two victory to take a 1-0 lead in their best-of-seven series against the Quebec Remparts on Friday night before a crowd of just under 3,000 fans.

The Titan got on the board first at the 3:30 mark of the first period after Daniil Miromanov rifled a shot that beat Remparts starter Evgeny Kiselev between the pads for his first goal of the post-season with the man-advantage. Dawson Theede and Félix Boivin picked up assists on the play. Mid-way through the period, the Remparts managed to beat Titan starter Anthony Dumont-Bouchard after Yanick Turcotte deflected a shot off the far post to make it a tie-game. Derek Gentile would give the visitors their first lead of the series two minutes later after Dumont-Bouchard was unable to handle the rebound off a shot by Andrew Coxhead and buried his first of the playoffs. The goal would give the Remparts a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes of play.

The Titan evened things up 7:15 into the second period on their second power play of the game as Vladimir Kuznetsov beat Kiselev for his first goal of the playoffs. Rodrigo Abols and Theede assisted just seconds into the man-advantage. Adam Holwell then scored just over a minute later off a pass from Antoine Morand on a play started by Olivier Desjardins, giving the Titan the lead back at the end of two periods in a frame that saw the Titan out-shoot the Remparts 16-2.

Both teams ran into penalty trouble in the latter-half of the third period, but neither side were able to make a dent on the scoreboard. It would not be until the final 26 seconds with the Remaprts’ net empty for an extra skater that Jeffrey Viel would find the open cage for his first of the post-season. Noah Dobson and Miromanov were credited with the assists on the insurance goal as the Titan wrapped up game one by a 4-2 score.

Dumont-Bouchard, making his post-season debut, stopped 15 of the 17 shots he faced to earn his first QMJHL post-season victory. Kiselev allowed three goals on 42 shots faced in defeat.

Special teams saw the Titan go two-for-five with the man-advantage while the Remparts were unsuccessful on five power plays of their own.
