Titan have high hopes for top two 2017 draft picks
The 2017-18 edition of the Acadie-Bathurst Titan features a wealth of veteran talent sprinkled with a few new faces. Among those new players are 2017 second round picks Olivier Desroches and Logan Chisholm. Selected 34th and 35th respectively, the two rookies are the only players from the Titan’s 2017 draft class that were able to crack the roster this season.
Desroches was ranked just outside the first round at #19 by QMJHL Central Scouting but was still available when it came time for the Titan to make their selection 34th overall. Listed at six-foot-one and 185 pounds, registered 13 points and had a plus-eight rating in 33 games with the Laval-Montreal Rousseau Royal this past season in the LHMAAAQ.
Considering where he was ranked, the Titan hockey operations staff are very pleased that they were able to nab him with their first of two second round picks. When asked about young blue liners play and what he brings to the team, head coach Mario Pouliot noted, “Olivier is a guy who skates very well, he competes very hard, and he is not afraid to sacrifice his body to throw hits or block shots.”
Chisholm, on the other hand, was selected exactly where he was ranked. The Titan were on the clock with the 35th pick just moments after they had selected Desroches 34th and wasted no time in selecting the forward from Antigonish, Nova Scotia. The talented winger recorded 40 points in 37 games for the Cape Breton West Islanders this season and added 10 points in 11 post-season games.
He was also the hero in the championship game of the 2017 TELUS Cup scoring the game-tying goal and the overtime winner as the NSMMHL champions captured the national title over the Saint-Francois Blizzard, a team that featured three 2017 QMJHL first-round picks.
“Logan is a very good person, someone who is very mature as a 16-year-old. As far as his on-ice qualities, his skating, hockey sense, and his compete level really standout. He does all the right things on the ice and that will allow to have an impact for our team right away,” said coach Pouliot on the rookie forward.
Come check out Olivier, Logan, and the rest of the 2017-18 Titan this Friday when we take on the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles in our home opener.
