Titan get revenge with 2-1 win over Sea Dogs

BATHURST – Rivarly Week kicked off in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League on Thursday night as the Acadie-Bathurst Titan and Saint John Sea Dogs faced off in one part of the Battle of New Brunswick. After suffering a loss to the Sea Dogs last week on the road, Bathurst was looking to get revenge on home ice.

After an back-and-forth opening 10 minutes, the Titan found the back of the net. Logan Chisholm got the puck at the top of the left circle and fired a shot towards the net that was tipped past Alex D’Orio by Antoine Morand for a 1-0 lead. Elijah Francis also notched a helper on the play.

The game stayed fairly quiet until late in the second period when the Titan doubled their lead. Justin Ducharme forced a turnover down low in the Sea Dogs zone and found Domenic Malatesta all alone in the slot for a one-timer. Malatesta’s second of the season came at 18:32.

In the third period, Saint John managed to get within one. Matt Green chipped the puck past Francis on the boards and onto the stick of Nick Deakin-Poot. He came in on the right side 2-on-1 with Kevin Gursoy and sent the puck to Gursoy who beat Pickard. That’s as close as they would come as the Titan held on for the 2-1 victory, despite a late charge by Saint John with their net empty.

Pickard made 30 saves and earned second star honours on the night, while D’Orio stopped 37 shots and was the third star.

Three Stars:

1st Star – Jeffrey Viel
2nd Star – Reilly Pickard
3rd Star – Alex D’Orio
