Titan fire record number of shots on goal in win over Sea Dogs

SAINT JOHN, N.B. – The Acadie-Bathurst Titan peppered netminder Alex D’Orio with 66 shots, including 31 in the second period alone, en route to a 6-4 victory over the Saint John Sea Dogs. It was the third game in as many nights for both teams with the Titan having finished 3-0 on the weekend.

It was the Sea Dogs who would get on the board first in this one as Cole Reginato scored on a breakaway 7:27 into the game to make it 1-0 for the home side. Antoine Morand tied it with 54 seconds remaining in the period with assists going to Jordan Maher and Noah Dobson.

At the 13:36 mark of the second period Anthony Boucher was awarded a penalty shot and he connected on it to put the Sea Dogs ahead 2-1. Mitchell Balmas swung the puck through a crowd and into an open cage with D’Orio out of position to even it up once again with 35 seconds to play. German Rubtsov picked up the lone helper.

Jeffrey Viel scored back-to-back goals at 1:22 and 1:40 of the third period to give the Titan a two-goal edge early in the final frame. Saint John got back within a goal at the 13 minute mark on a tally from Nathan Larose. 21 seconds later Ethan Crossman sniped his 19th to put the visitors back up by a pair. Olivier Galipeau picked up the only assist.

Noah Dobson made it a three-goal cushion exactly one minute later with assists to Antoine Morand and Domenic Malatesta. Ben Reid would pot one for the Sea Dogs at 15:44 but it was not enough as the Titan completed a three-in-three swing with three wins. With 66 shots on goal, the Titan broke a franchise record for most shots in a game with the previous being 60.
