REGINA, Sask. – The Acadie-Bathurst Titan were back in action Tuesday night as they took on the Hamilton Bulldogs in their third round-robin game of the 2018 Mastercard Memorial Cup. Sitting at 2-0, the Titan could book their ticket directly to the final with a win. A two-goal first period from the Bulldogs proved to be the difference maker as they would go on to defeat the Titan 3-2.
Benjamin Gleason opened the scoring with a powerplay goal at 14:33 after a holding call to Noah Dobson. Three minutes later Nicolas Caamano made it 2-0 Bulldogs, which is how the first period would end. Late in the second period Jeffrey Viel got the Titan on the board with his third of the tournament. Dobson and Olivier Galipeau picked up the assists at 14:11. The Bulldogs lead 2-1 through 40 minutes of play.
In the third period both side scored as the Bulldogs came out on top 3-2. First it was Robert Thomas with a powerplay goal 1:04 into the period to extend Hamilton’s lead to 3-1. Samuel Asselin scored on a beautiful cross-ice feed from Viel at 3:44 to bring the Titan to within a goal but that is as close as they would come. With the win Hamilton improves to 2-1 while the Titan fall to 2-1. Despite the loss, Bathurst can still advance directly to Sunday’s final with a Regina victory over Swift Current on Wednesday.
