The Acadie-Bathurst Titan shook off a disastrous first period in Boisbriand to take two of three games during their latest road trip into the province of Quebec.
Kicking off the trip Friday night in Boisbriand, QC, the Titan were unable to overcome a five-goal first period by the Armada dropping the opening game of the road trip by a five to two score. Dawson Theede recorded his 11th goal of the season with assists to Félix Boivin and Jeffrey Viel while Antoine Morand scored his 12th of the year with help from Luc Deschènes. Simon Boudreault-Belzile made the start for the Titan and allowed three goals on 10 shots before being replaced 11:02 into the first period by Francis Lavallée who allowed two goals on seven shots. Boudreault-Belzile returned in net for the final 40 minutes of play.
Saturday afternoon was a completely different story for the Titan as the scene shifted to the Robert Guetrin Centre in Gatineau, QC where the Titan returned to the win column thanks to a six-to-three victory. Jordan Maher opened the scoring in the first period with his sixth of the season before Christophe Boivin notched his team-leading 18th goal of the year in the second period. After Gatineau took a 3-2 lead early in the third period, the Titan would storm back scoring four unanswered starting with Vladimir Kuznetsov’s third of the season followed up by a pair of goals from Jeffrey Viel (15th and 16th) and Antoine Morand (13th). Simon Boudreault-Belzile returned to the Titan net and stopped 25 of 28 shots to pick up his first career QMJHL victory.
The final stop on the road trip saw the Titan play their third games saw the Titan make their only visit to Victoriaville to tangle with the Tigres, taking a seven-to-six overtime victory in a wild game that saw Rodrigo Abols score his first QMJHL hat trick, putting home his third, fourth and fifth goals of the season while Dawson Theede scored his 12th and 13th of the season with singles coming from Daniil Miromanov and Jordan Maher, who scored the overtime winner to give the Titan four of six available points over the weekend. Once again, Simon Boudreault-Belzile once again got the start for the Titan and made 29 saves in the overtime victory.
Rodrigo Abols was on fire Sunday recording three goals and two assists against the Tigres to go with an assist recorded Saturday night in Gatineau. The Latvian-born 7th round pick of the Vancouver Canucks has four goals and five assists in his last five games.
Antoine Morand saw his fourth-game goal scoring streak come to an end Sunday against Victoriaville. With six goals in his last eight games, Morand is now one goal away from matching his total from last season (14).
Dawson Theede had a very productive weekend scoring three goals in three games, bringing him to an even total of 13 goals and 13 assists on the season in 24 games, nearly quadrupling his total of seven points last year in 49 games.
