Titan comeback to take game five and series lead

BOISBRIAND, Que. – The Acadie-Bathurst Titan took to the road for the sixth game of their Rogers President Cup final series against the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada on Friday night. After a tough defeat at home on Wednesday, the Titan looked to bounce back.

It was the home side that opened the scoring early with a powerplay goal. Joel Teasdale scored at 3:06 to make it 1-0 Armada. Samuel L’Italien tied it later in the period when he took a feed from Mitchell Balmas and fired a wrist shot from the slot that got past Emile Samson. Michal Ivan also picked up an assist on the goal at 12:35. Just over two minutes later Ivan jumped on a rebound and scored his first career playoff goal to put the Titan up 2-1. Jeffrey Viel and L’Italien got the helpers.

Just before the four minute mark of the second period Ethan Crossman extended the lead to 3-1 with his tenth of the playoffs. Balmas and Olivier Galipeau grabbed the helpers at 3:59. A bad bounce at the other end allowed Alexander Katarinakis to get a breakaway and cut the lead to 3-2 at 7:49, and it would stay that way through 40 minutes of play.

Noah Dobson restored a two-goal edge for the visitors 2:41 into the third with a low shot from the right point that got through traffic and into the net. The eventual game-winner was unassisted. Charles-Antoine Giguere responded for the Armada one minute later off the faceoff however Jeffrey Viel would seal the win for the Titan with an empty net goal at 19:53. Evan Fitzpatrick made 33 saves in the win, including some huge stops in the last stages of the game to maintain the Titan lead.
