Rubtsov nets a pair in victory over Remparts

QUEBEC CITY, Que. – The Acadie-Bathurst capped off a three-game road trip through the province of Quebec on a good note Sunday afternoon at the Centre Videotron. Russian forward German Rubtsov scored twice and Evan Fitzpatrick stopped 26 shots as the Titan defeated the Quebec Remparts 4-1.

Despite the outcome it was the Remparts who got on the board first when Pascal Laberge scored just 1:46 into the game giving the home side a 1-0 lead. The lead lasted less than half the period as Jeffrey Viel got a stick on Ethan Crossman’s shot from the outside and the puck trickled over the goal line to even it at one goal apiece. Samuel L’Italien picked up the secondary assist on the goal.

In the second period Rubtsov gave the Titan the lead. Early in the frame he got the puck in the neutral zone, skated in over the line and moved across the ice before firing a quick wrist shot far side on Antoine Samuel for his tenth of the season. The goal came unassisted at 4:37. Just past the midway mark Rubtsov found the back of the net again as he stepped into a loose puck and blasted it past Samuel giving the visitors a two-goal edge, 3-1. Jordan Maher and Olivier Galipeau got the helpers.

Midway through the third period Noah Dobson sealed the deal with his ninth of the year to make it 4-1 for the Titan. Viel and Samuel Asselin notched assists as the Titan grabbed four of a possible six points on the weekend. Evan Fitzpatrick had a good outing in goal making 26 saves in just his fourth game since coming over from Sherbrooke.
