Phoenix double up Titan in afternoon tilt

BATHURST – The Acadie-Bathurst Titan played host to the Sherbrooke Phoenix Sunday afternoon as they made their way through the Maritimes. Despite scoring first, the Titan would end up on the wrong side of the scoreboard in this one.

Former Phoenix forward Evan MacKinnon welcomed his old team to his new home very quickly as he scored the opening goal just 1:41 in. Daniil Vertiy and Marc-Andre LeCouffe got the assists. Later in the period Jeremy Rainville and Felix Robert scored 45 seconds apart to put the visitors ahead 2-1. Sherbrooke’s lead was extended to 3-1 at 19:33 when Keenan MacIsaac put the puck into his own net. It would stay that way after one period.

LeCouffe brought the Titan back to within one at 12:20 of the second period with his seventh of the season. MacKinnon and Alexis Sansfacon nabbed the helpers. However Bobby Dow would restore the three-goal edge for the Phoenix three minutes later with an unassisted marker making it 4-2 Phoenix through 40 minutes. Liam Murphy scored 1:15 into the third to once again give the Titan hope but goals from Bailey Peach and Yann-Felix Lapointe later in the period dashed all hopes they had of a comeback.
