Murphy propels Titan into round three with overtime winner

SHERBROOKE, Que. – The Acadie-Bathurst Titan looked to finish off the Sherbrooke Phoenix when they met in game four of their second round matchup Wednesday night. Having outscored the Phoenix by a combined 15-2 in the first three games, the Titan came in leading the series 3-0 and looking to complete the sweep.

After a scoreless opening 20 minutes Ethan Crossman set the visitors on the right path with his sixth of the playoffs. Liam Murphy and Olivier Galipeau nabbed the assists as the Titan went ahead 1-0. It remained that way through 40 minutes and into the second half of the third period.

A powerplay goal from rookie Samuel Poulin at 11:35 brought the game back to even. Five minutes later Jeffrey Viel restored the Titan leading muscling his way around the defender and beating Brendan Cregan for his sixth of the post-season. Jordan Maher and Samuel Asselin got the helpers at 16:53. With under two minutes to play and their season hanging in the balance, the Phoenix were once again given some life by Poulin who even it up 2-2. Still tied at the end of regulation, overtime was required to solve this one.

Five minutes into the extra frame Liam Murphy roofed his third goal of the 2018 playoffs to send the Titan to the semi-finals with a 3-2 victory and a series sweep. Asselin picked up the lone helper, his second of the night. Evan Fitzpatrick made 28 stops to send his former team packing.
