Morand sets assist record in game two victory

BATHURST – A new team record was set Saturday night as the Acadie-Bathurst Titan and the Sherbrooke Phoenix faced off in game two of their second round series. For the second straight night the Titan walked away with a 5-1 victory to take a 2-0 series lead.

Just under three minutes in Adam Holwell broke the ice. Antoine Morand notched the lone assist as the Titan jumped in front 1-0. Ethan Crossman deflected a Mitchell Balmas shot at 7:15 to extend the lead to 2-0. Morand also picked up an assist on the play.

Liam Murphy added to the lead midway through the second with his second of the playoffs at 10:25. Morand and Olivier Galipeau got the helpers. Not long after that Balmas found the back of the net for the third time in the series pushing to score to 4-0. Morand tallied his fourth assist of the night to tie the team record for assists in a playoff game while Justin Ducharme also got on the scoresheet with an assist. Yaroslav Alexeyev got the Phoenix on the board at 16:50 to make it 4-1 through 40 minutes of play.

At the 7:47 mark of the third period Balmas potted his second of the night giving the home side a 5-1 edge. With another assist on the play Morand set a new team record for assists in a playoff game after tying the record in the second period. Ducharme picked up the secondary assist. Evan Fitzpatrick put together a stellar performance against his former team making 35 saves to earn the win and second star honours.
