Galipeau scores overtime winner in Sydney
SYDNEY, N.S. – The Acadie-Bathurst Titan finished off a back-to-back set on the road against the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles on Saturday night. Last night the two teams faced off in a low-scoring battle that saw the home side come out on top 2-1 in overtime. Tonight the Titan got their revenge.
Midway through the first period Liam Murphy got things going with his 14th goal of the season. Ethan Crossman and Adam Holwell picked up assists as the Titan took a 1-0 lead. A powerplay goal from Phelix Martineau tied it five minutes later. It would remain even at one goal apiece after one period.
Early in the second period Brooklyn Kalmikov scored to put the Screaming Eagles ahead 2-1 at 1:08. However, Cole Rafuse answered for the Titan at 3:52 to knot it up at two. Holwell and Noah Dobson notched the helpers. Olivier Galipeau found the back of the net at 12:19 to put the visitors back in front 3-2, assisted by Samuel L’Italien and Jordan Maher. Mathias Laferriere answered late in the frame to make it 3-3 through 40 minutes.
Rafuse potted his second of the evening with 3:21 remaining to give the Titan the edge 4-3. It wasn’t long after that Noah Laaouan gave us a tie game once more at 17:04. The final three minutes of regulation solved nothing meaning we would need overtime. In the extra frame it was the veteran Olivier Galipeau who scored just 42 seconds in to propel Bathurst to a 5-4 victory on the road.
