Four-goal third period propels Titan past Foreurs

BATHURST – The Acadie-Bathurst Titan welcomed the Val-d’Or Foreurs to the K.-C.-Irving Regional Centre for their only regular season visit Friday night. After a low scoring opening 40 minutes, the Titan blew things open in the third period with four straight goals.

Dawson Theede banged in a rebound at 8:37 to the open the scoring with his 11th tally of the season. Justin Ducharme and Michal Ivan notched the assists. A little over two minutes later Maxim Mizyurin went in alone on a breakaway and beat Pickard to knot the game up 1-1. Assists went to Kozlov and Noel. After being heavily outshot in the first period, the Foreurs climbed back in that category in the second but neither side was able to find the back of the net.

Just 56 seconds into the third period Adam Holwell gave the Titan the lead. His eighth of the year, assisted by Jeffrey Viel and Antoine Morand, put the home side in front 2-1. Near the midway mark of the frame Samuel L’Italien potted a powerplay marker to extend the lead to 3-1, with assists going to Holwell and Ivan. German Rubtsov kept the offensive outburst going adding to the advantage at 12:28, assisted by Holwell and Noah Dobson.

Cole Rafuse put a little salt on the wound scoring on a shorthanded breakaway with 3.9 seconds to play capping off a 5-1 victory for the Titan on home ice. Reilly Pickard made 27 saves for the win in goal while Jonathan Lemieux stopped 32 shots for the Foreurs.
