The Acadie-Bathurst Titan exploded for four third period goals to take a 2-0 lead in their best-of-seven series against the Quebec Remparts on Saturday night at the K.C. Irving Regional Centre by a six-to-two score.
Christophe Boivin opened the scoring for the Titan at the 4:24 mark after tapping home a behind-the-net pass from Antoine Morand on a play set up by Vladimir Kuznetsov. Kuznetsov would make it a 2-0 game a little under three minutes later with his second of the playoffs off a feed from Matthew Ferrari and Boivin. The Remparts would get on the board mid-way through the period thanks to Louis-Filip Côté putting home a rebound to send the game into the intermission set at a 2-1 score in the Titan’s favour.
The lone goal of the second period came from the visitors as Dmitry Buynitskiy used a screen to even things up after 40 minutes of play.
After having a goal waived off earlier in the game, Dawson Theede would put the Titan ahead for good at the 8:07 mark with his first of the playoffs from Jordan Maher and Zachary Malatesta. Kuznetsov would notch his second of the game on an unassisted steal of the puck with 4:21 remaining in the third to make it a 4-2 game ofr the Titan. Rodrigo Abols would round out the Titan scoring with two goals in the final 2:16 of play, his first coming on an empty net from Noah Dobson and the second banking in off Remparts starter Evgeni Kiselev from Jeffrey Viel.
Anthony Dumont-Bouchard made his second-straight start for the TItan and stopped 20 of 22 shots for the victory while Kiselev allowed five goals on 43 shots in defeat.
With the Titan leading the series 2-0, the scene now shifts to Quebec City and the Videotron Centre for the next two games. Game 3 takes place Tuesday night while Game 4 goes Wednesday night. Both games are scheduled with 8:00pm ADT start times and can be heard on CKLE 92.9 FM and seen live on the QMJHL’s webcast service.
