Dion lifts Foreurs past Titan in low scoring affair
BATHURST – The Acadie-Bathurst Titan kicked off the month of November with a game at home against the Val-d’Or Foreurs. Forward Ethan Crossman made his return to the lineup after having off-season hip surgery while Kristian Kovacik also returned from a mild concussion.
Midway through the opening period the Titan opened the scoring on the man advantage. Keenan MacIsaac beat Mathieu Marquis for his second of the season with assists going to Kristian Kovacik and Noah Dobson at 10:49. The Titan took that 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
It wasn’t until the middle part of the second period that the game’s second goal was scored. This time it was the Foreurs who found the back of the net as Alexandre Couture knotted it up 1-1 at 9:34. After 40 minutes of play we were all even at one goal apiece.
Just as the first goal of the game was on the powerplay, so was the last goal of the night. Yan Dion scored off an odd sequence to put the Foreurs in front for the first time in the game. The Titan would pull the goalie in favour of the extra attacker in the final minutes but Val-d’Or held them off to take it 2-1. Mark Grametbauer made 34 saves in the loss while Mathieu Marquis stopped 28 shots for the winning side. Crossman picked up second star honours in his return to action for the first time in five months.
