Balmas pots a pair in win over Wildcats

BATHURST – The Acadie-Bathurst Titan welcomed the Moncton Wildcats to town for another chapter of the Battle of New Brunswick on Wednesday evening. Keeping up his red hot play, Mitchell Balmas found the back of the net twice in this one to pace the Titan offence.

Liam Murphy scored the opening goal late in the first period to give the home side a 1-0 lead. Michal Ivan and Antoine Morand got the assists at 18:29. Balmas got his first of the season with only seven seconds to play in the period making it 2-0 after one. Morand picked up the lone helper.

Just 1:04 into the second period Balmas scored once again to push the gap to 3-0 while Ethan Crossman and Olivier Galipeau tallied assists. A shorthanded goal by Noah Dobson gave the Titan a 4-0 cushion. Jordan Maher and Adam Holwell notched assists on the play. Jeremy McKenna got one on the board for Moncton late in the frame to make it 4-1 through 40 minutes.

Alexander Khovanov scored another for the visitors in the third but Antoine Morand responded with a shorthanded tally giving the Titan a 5-2 victory over their provincial counterparts.
